Meet Arjan Elijzen: our empathetic, eager-to-learn, and encouraging career advisor.
Who are you and what do you do at MEPD?
As a career advisor, I have been working at MEPD West since 2020. With my empathy, I can truly understand the thoughts and experiences of others. My sense of responsibility ensures I guide people in what we are going to do and we always follow through on our agreements. I say what I do and do what I say. Since I enjoy learning new things, I am curious by nature and try to understand things deeply.
What has stayed with you the most since working at MEPD and why?
The thing that has stayed with me the most is the warm welcome at MEPD. The feeling of immediately being part of the group, an environment where I can truly be myself. But certainly also the added value we provide to and for the people I get to guide. For example, the time I assisted a 64-year-old employee in a second track process, and at the end of the two years he brought his wife to the final meeting and thanked me for the guidance. It brought him peace, both individually and in his relationship. The gratitude I felt at that moment, that’s what you do it for. But also in outplacement, career coaching, and development advice sessions where you see candidates grow and become more confident because they have found answers that have given them direction.
MEPD employees are impact makers;
how do you make an impact?
By truly being there for the candidates, putting people at the center, listening without judgment to what keeps them occupied, and asking where they might need help. This allows me as a career advisor to chart the course together with the candidates and guide them step by step in their journey.
