What is a selection assessment?

A selection assessment answers the question of how suitable a candidate is for a specific position or role. We identify development points and indicate where there may be a potential risk with the candidate. Want to have a selection assessment conducted? Thanks to our professional and personal approach, we ensure a high-quality selection assessment. So get in touch with us today!

Prevent mismatches with a selection assessment

Through a selection assessment, we predict the chance of success and prevent mismatches. That is why, with a selection assessment, we offer more certainty about the match between the candidate and the new role. This way, the company can grow faster, and we make sure the right people are in the right positions. Below are the steps we take during a selection assessment.

1. Mapping out the candidate’s strengths and development areas

2. Clearly formulating possible risks

3. Predicting the chance of success

4. Preventing a mismatch between the candidate and the organization

We can  help your company move forward.

Why use a selection assessment?

The right person in the right position: that’s what matters for achieving a good match between candidate and role. But how can you be sure that someone truly fits within your organization? Or whether an applicant not only has the right experience but also the motivation and personality to be successful in the role? This is where a selection assessment helps.

A selection assessment helps you to look beyond just the CV or the interview. It provides a complete picture of someone’s talents, thinking style, drives, and development potential. Objective, well-founded, and with attention to both the person and the role.

1. You get the right person in the right place

2. The candidate fits the organization

3. A clear development plan for your new employee

Want to check if the person has development points and learning needs in certain areas? Then MEPD can also conduct a development assessment. This allows you to determine the further potential of a candidate or employee.

Selection assessment: Insight that goes beyond the interview

Interviews are valuable, but also just snapshots. Someone may present well but might fit less well with the culture or work pace. A selection assessment brings these aspects clearly into view. It provides insight into questions such as:

  • Does the candidate fit the team and the manager?
  • Does the person have the learning ability to grow further?
  • Is there a match between personal values and organizational goals?

By combining tests, interviews, and behavioral analyses, you truly know what you are getting into—and you prevent an expensive mismatch.

More certainty for both sides

A selection assessment does not only provide clarity for employers. It is also valuable for the candidate. It helps align expectations and gives tools to start stronger in a new role. We often notice that people get to know themselves better through the assessment and therefore start with more confidence.

Our assessments are experienced as positive, respectful, and people-oriented. Not just a checklist, but truly tailored. That’s what MEPD is all about!

What does an assessment day look like?

A selection assessment lasts half a working day. But it can also take a whole day if you choose a psychological occupational assessment combined with psychologists and actors. In addition, the selection assessment can be conducted at the MEPD assessment center. A selection assessment consists of the following components:

1. Conversation between the employee and the advisor

2. Completing cognitive tests

3. Completing a test on personality traits and personal values

4. Completing a critical thinking test (for specific management positions)

5. Short debriefing with the participant with (preliminary) general advice

Frequently asked questions

A selection assessment is especially useful for:

  • Critical positions with a lot of responsibility
  • Uncertainties in the final selection round
  • Internal promotions to a new role
  • Recruitment processes with multiple suitable candidates
  • New teams or structures where balance and collaboration are essential

At MEPD, we are happy to help you find the format that suits your needs: from a compact assessment day to an in-depth customized program.

The selection assessment answers the question of how suitable a candidate is for a particular position or role. In addition, in the development assessment, the development potential of an employee is mapped out. This shows what can be developed and which development method you should choose.

In advance, it is jointly determined which three or four competencies are most important. These competencies will then be specifically addressed in our report. This way, you can decide for yourself which competencies will be assessed during the selection assessment.

The selection assessment takes half a day and takes place at one of our locations. If role plays are also included, you can expect it to last a full day. However, the total duration of the selection assessment is determined in consultation. This way we can conduct the assessment as desired.
