Work-life balance
more important than ever!

International research shows that a good balance between work and private life now outweighs salary for the first time. Globally, 83% of employees cite this as a priority. The importance of this balance is also growing in the Netherlands: 33% of job switchers left their employer due to a disrupted balance or poor work atmosphere (compared to 21% a year earlier).

A telling development: employees are no longer afraid to advocate for their personal lives. In the tight labor market, people feel more assertive and employers recognize that meeting work-life needs is essential.

But how do you, as an employer or HR, respond to this development? Six tips!

Here are some practical tips for HR and companies to address the growing need for a healthy work-life balance:

1. Flexible working hours and hybrid work

Offer your employees the possibility to adjust their working hours or work partly from home. This helps them better combine work and personal life.

2. Open dialogue about workload

Create a culture where employees feel free to discuss workload and balance. Regular check-ins help spot problems early.

3. Respect clear boundaries

Encourage a healthy separation between work and private life by limiting overtime and not expecting emails or messages outside of working hours.

4. Understand personal needs by generation

Older employees appreciate flexibility for caregiving, while younger generations often value social connection and meaning in their work. Respond to these differences!

5. Invest in well-being and job happiness

Offer programs for mental health, sports, relaxation, and coaching. Happy employees perform better and stay with the organization longer.

6. Provide growth opportunities and autonomy

Employees are more likely to stay if they can develop themselves and influence their work. Give them responsibility and opportunities to grow.

Sparring? Scheduling a moment is easy!

By taking these measures seriously, companies can not only attract and retain talent, but also contribute to a more productive and happier work environment. Would you like to discuss job satisfaction and the work-life balance within your organization? Scheduling a moment is easy; get in touch!
