Sometimes work calls for a new direction. For example, during a reorganization, ending an employment contract, or when a role simply no longer fits. In such situations, an outplacement agency isn’t a luxury, but a valuable link in a carefully structured outplacement process. At MEPD, we look beyond just work: we look at people, motivations, and possibilities, with attention and guidance that truly makes a difference.
Whether you are an employer who wants to say goodbye to employees thoughtfully, or an employee facing an uncertain future: we help you take the next, suitable step. As an outplacement agency, we combine practical support with strategic insight, focused on sustainable development and new perspectives.
What does an outplacement agency do?
An outplacement agency supports people leaving their job (voluntarily or involuntarily) in finding new employment. The goal is sustainable redeployment: a role that fits, provides energy, and is sustainable. The emphasis is on personal development, job satisfaction, and making suitable choices.
At MEPD, we do this with:
- Personal coaching and tailored career guidance
- Insight into talents, motivations, and development opportunities
- Practical help with job applications, networking, and self-presentation
- Access to a broad network of employers and secondment partners
- Support even after placement for a sustainable transition
The outplacement process is always tailored. We look at who someone is, what suits him or her, and what is needed to move forward with confidence. This can take the form of individual outplacement or as part of collective outplacement during major organizational changes.
Outplacement with an eye for people, work, and technology
The world of work is constantly changing, especially in manufacturing and technical sectors. Roles are evolving, new skills are required, and organizations must adapt. At MEPD, we understand this dynamic. Our coaches know the job market for production workers, engineers, managers in technology, and all roles in between.
When does an outplacement agency come in handy?
An outplacement process at an outplacement agency is relevant in various situations. Think of:
- Reorganizations or restructurings
- Roles disappearing due to automation or market changes
- A mismatch between role and employee
- Irreconcilable labor conflicts
- Long-term absence or changed capacity for work
- Underperformance with suitable solutions for both parties
- A signed settlement agreement
- Need for a new direction for a manager or specialist
Sometimes an outplacement process follows a second-track reintegration process; in other cases, it’s suitable for employees who are ready for something new after years but need support finding it.
Whatever your situation: as an outplacement agency, we’re here to help you move forward. Feel free to contact us—we’ll be happy to explain.
How do you choose a good outplacement agency?
A good outplacement agency suits your organization, your people, and your vision on work. When choosing, pay attention to these points:
- Focus on people: do they really listen?
- Flexibility in approach: room for customization?
- Transparency about approach and results
- Experience and expertise: for how long and what track record?
- Quality marks: Blik op Werk, OVAL, NOLOC
- Industry knowledge: does the agency know your sector?
- Support after placement: is aftercare provided?
At MEPD, we combine 25+ years of experience with a committed, people-focused approach. Crafting people-centered solutions is what MEPD stands for.
Outplacement at MEPD: always a step forward
Our outplacement programs are focused on development. Not just finding a new job, but also personal growth. That’s why we pay a lot of attention to self-awareness, purpose, and career development.
If necessary, we offer temporary secondment. This allows someone to gain work experience and simultaneously build confidence and skills for a future permanent job. For many people, this is a valuable stepping stone to permanent employment.

Frequently asked questions about outplacement agencies
What does an outplacement agency do?
An outplacement agency guides employees to a new, suitable job outside their current organization. This usually takes place at the employer’s request, for example after a restructuring, settlement agreement, or in cases of underperformance. A good outplacement agency offers personal career coaching, job application guidance, help with CVs and LinkedIn, access to relevant networks, and aftercare following placement. At MEPD, every step is tailor-made: no fixed programs, but sustainable placement.
What does an average outplacement process cost?
The costs of an outplacement process generally range between €2,000 and €8,500, depending on length, intensity, and possible extra modules such as retraining or assessment. For collective outplacement, the costs per person are lower. Outplacement can often be paid from the transition allowance, and it is fiscally attractive to arrange this directly between employer and outplacement agency. MEPD always provides a transparent quote upfront, with no hidden surprises.
Can an employee refuse outplacement?
Yes, in the Netherlands, an employee can in principle refuse outplacement. Outplacement here (unlike in Belgium) is not legally required. However, outplacement may be included in a settlement agreement or a social plan; in that case, there are agreements to review before refusing. More important than whether you have to go, is whether you want to: research shows that self-chosen guidance is up to 140% more effective. A good fit with the coach makes the difference.
What are the disadvantages of outplacement for an employee?
Honestly: outplacement requires time, energy, and a willingness to reflect on yourself. Some employees feel that a fixed program is imposed on them, especially if the employer chose the agency. Other possible concerns: the support feels too generic, there is no connection with the coach, or the focus is too much on quickly applying for jobs instead of finding the right direction. At MEPD, we prevent this with tailored services, a personal introduction beforehand, and giving employees the space to determine their own direction. No connection, no process. That makes the difference.
Are outplacement services really worth it?
For most employees, yes—if the agency suits you. Research shows that guided programs on average lead to faster and more sustainable placement than searching on your own. A good outplacement process not only leads to a new job, but also provides clarity about what you truly want and can do. This prevents you from falling into the same pitfalls with your next employer. So, the question isn’t whether it’s worth it, but which agency to choose. Always ask about their approach, your connection with the coach, certifications, and placement results.
