You have and
are a talent!

But how do you discover what you are good at? As a child, you often naturally do what you’re really good at, without ever thinking about it. Over the years, you develop further, get even better, and gain more experience. Yet sometimes you’re not even aware yourself of exactly what that talent is.

Does your work fit you?

Many people no longer find fulfilment in their work, and they don’t really know why. They may have drifted from job to job or stayed in the same position for a long time, and suddenly realize that something no longer feels right. There could be many reasons for this. But it might just be because your work doesn’t match where your true talent lies.

Capture your talent in one word

Because if you know what it is, it’s much easier to think about where and for whom you can make a difference. It also becomes easier to see more opportunities for different work than just what you’ve always done. Take Theo as an example. Theo worked as a structural metalworker/welder. He was forced to look for other options due to physical complaints. He discovered another one of his talents, namely, the drive to help others. He amazed himself by being able to complete a training as a security officer. He never liked school in the past but now works in the security industry with great pleasure.

What is talent?

A talent is the sum of everything you have within you: traits, qualities, and ways of doing things to achieve something that benefits others. It’s the best of yourself, captured in one word or a short phrase. When you know what your talent is, you can look for work in which you can truly make the most of it. But you can also use that knowledge to shape your current work more and more to suit you, so you can optimally help others with your talent.

How do you discover your talent?

Start by making a list of what you’re good at. You can also recall what you enjoyed doing as a child, as that often provides surprising insights. Additionally, think about what frustrates you; this is usually a situation where your talent comes into action and you naturally start doing what you do best! Lastly, complete the following sentence: ‘I am a born…’ Not an easy task, but definitely worth a try. Curious what you are: discoverer, ideas-generator, helper, unburdener, untangler…
