How do you define a 30-year existence? As a person you are (hopefully) already an adult; you have had your first job, and around that time a new phase of life often begins (with or without children). As a company you have already proven yourself. Otherwise, you wouldn’t exist anymore, as the average lifespan of a company is just 15 years. Nor are you close to earning the royal predicate, as one of those requirements is at least 100 years of existence. Still, we want to highlight our 30th anniversary!
Proud of who we are
Not because there necessarily needs to be a celebration, but because I am proud of who we are and what we do: A foundation that is not old-fashioned, stands on its own two feet, enjoys high client and participant satisfaction, and provides relevant added value.
Staying relevant
It all started with collegial mediation and later also outplacement. But in 30 years, MEPD has continuously managed to stay relevant for clients in the technical sector (and metal industry in particular), even as market circumstances changed. Outplacement is still an important service, but in today’s tight labor market, most of our clients’ questions relate to recruitment, development, retention, and employability of people.
Not always a bed of roses
Of course, our path over these 30 years hasn’t always been a bed of roses. We have faced tough times too, and, like the proverbial plumber, we’ve had the occasional leak. But it hasn’t made us worse. Experiencing first-hand what it means to (have to) implement changes also gives us valuable experience to draw from. We invest heavily in the training and education of our own staff, enabling us to continually adapt and deliver our services at a high level.
My prediction?
Making predictions is always difficult. Over the past period, among other things, COVID, turmoil in the global economy, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have turned the ‘normal’ way of doing things upside down. There are certainly a few certainties: aging population, exclusivity, job happiness, people and technology. These are all themes we deal with in our sector. Themes where people really are central. People-work (in production) will play a key role here. My prediction is that MEPD will remain just as relevant in the next five years as it has been during the past thirty.
