A qualities scan… I see you thinking. Let me explain: Knowing what you can do, what you want, and what makes you happy. That’s what you discover with the qualities scan. And believe me, there are many people who don’t really know what genuinely makes them happy. I regularly encounter these people when they are looking to deepen or broaden their role, or are reintegrating from a second-track illness process. Helping and guiding them is what gives me great satisfaction as a career coach.

An ideal instrument

I find the qualities scan an ideal instrument for participants to discover their behavioral style and motivations. It helps clarify in which role and work environment you function best. It also answers the question: Does my current job still suit me? Or is it wiser to look for a new challenge? A challenge that fits better with your natural behavioral style. A work scan not only provides self-insight, but also points the way to potential career paths. What appeals to me enormously is that it takes only 25 minutes to complete the scan, resulting in an extensive analysis of 22 pages.

Increased effectiveness and self-motivation

This analysis gives the employee a clear picture of their adapted behavioral style, personal motivations, and passions. And the great thing is: they become aware of their behavior and its impact on others. It also provides a better balance between what is needed for optimal functioning and what the environment requires. The result is that the employee enjoys their work more and sees more effect from their efforts. By clarifying personal qualities, their personal added value becomes apparent as well. This leads to increased personal effectiveness and self-motivation.

The right person in the right place

It also becomes clear what personal strengths and pitfalls are. Personally, I find this very interesting in relation to the team and its development. Insight into your own strengths and areas for improvement can greatly contribute to team development. It gives an idea of whether someone displays dominant, inspiring, stable, or mainly conformist behavior, both in their natural and adapted behavioral styles. If every team member completes the qualities scan, it becomes clear whether the employee has the right role and position, or if another role or even a different company would be more suitable. If the employee gives permission to share the results, then a manager gains more tools to put together a good team. I see it as a great added value to be able to advise managers about these kinds of personnel matters.

A sparkle in the eyes

I do notice the importance of personally explaining the results. It really comes alive for the participant. It becomes clearer, and the recognition is greater. I get great feedback from participants, like one who said he was extremely proud of the results of his qualities scan—a confirmation that he is in the right position. But also the conviction that a similar position at a different company would suit him best. Often I see a sparkle in their eyes, and that makes me happy! That is what I do it for as a career coach.
