As Finance & HR Manager, Richard was closely involved in the restructuring of the organization. There were significant setbacks, forcing several locations to close. During that phase, MEPD came into the picture to support and guide people towards new jobs. Richard himself was transferred to another branch, until he too became a ‘victim’. The staff positions were eliminated. He chose an outplacement program and was connected with our career coach Christien.
Never experienced dismissal before
‘It was the first time in my life that I experienced dismissal,’ Richard indicates. ‘I was actually quite level-headed about it myself, although things were a bit more tense at home. To be honest, it wasn’t the best combination: Right during the corona period, then the holiday season, and there were very few suitable vacancies available. Still, I kept believing that things would work out.
Clear again about what I really enjoy
Together with Christien, I took a good look at who I am and what I need: A test to map out my drivers, competencies, and behavior. The STARR method with its questions: What am I proud of, happy about, and what are my development points? Mostly confirmation of what I already knew. But, above all, it made clear again what I really enjoy and what suits me. We spent a lot of time on a good CV. I made both a short and an extended version, tailored to the vacancy. We also reviewed my LinkedIn profile thoroughly – and that turned out to be a golden move!
Approached for a vacancy via LinkedIn
I was approached by a recruiter on LinkedIn for a vacancy. I was immediately enthusiastic. The profile just fit! I had three interviews within the company and all went smoothly. Within two weeks it was arranged. I’ve just started now. I can simply be at the office, where of course we follow all sorts of rules. But it’s nice to get to know the company and the people this way. It’s a young organization with the ambition to grow. That really appeals to me.
Everything happens for a reason
Looking back on the process, I have a positive feeling about it. The focus was mainly on what I needed. Christien sensed that very well. Of course, you have to do it yourself; luckily, I was very motivated. Sometimes I think, everything happens for a reason. I notice that the restructuring – and the busyness that came with it – really took a lot out of me. I am now clearer in my mind. Maybe it was meant to be this way,’ says Richard.
